Some Things Talking Alone Can't Reach

EMDR therapy works at the level of the nervous system, where trauma actually lives. For Caribbean and Black women who’ve done the talking and are still carrying the weight.

Available via telehealth across Georgia.

What Is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - EMDR - is a research-backed therapy that helps the brain finish processing what got stuck.

When something painful happens and we can't fully process it, the memory can get stored in a way that keeps affecting us long after the event is over. EMDR works by helping the brain finish what it started. Reprocessing those memories so they no longer carry the same weight.

It works for the slow, accumulating kind of pain that many Black and Caribbean women know intimately, not just single traumatic events or combat-related PTSD. It is recognized as an effective trauma treatment by the American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

What to Expect

EMDR follows a structured sequence. We start by understanding your history, build the foundation for safe processing, then move into the work.

Bilateral Stimulation Guided eye movements or gentle tapping help your nervous system process what it couldn't when the experience first happened.

Safety First We never move faster than you're ready to go. The work unfolds when you're ready, not before.

Targeting What's at the Root We identify the specific memories and beliefs keeping you stuck. Not just the anxiety or the patterns on the surface, but what’s actually underneath it.

Installing What's Closer to the Truth As distressing memories lose their grip, we make room for what you actually know and believe now, not what the wound taught you to believe back then.

EMDR Mini-Intensive Sessions - 3 hours at $300

This session is focused, extended time to work through a specific concern in one sitting. Before scheduling, you'll complete a brief 15-minute consultation to confirm this format is the right fit, followed by a 90-minute intake assessment, where we build the clinical foundation for your EMDR work, including your history, treatment goals, and target identification, so the 3-hour session can be used entirely for processing.

During the 3-hour session, we will:

  • Resourcing: Build coping tools and grounding skills you can use during and after the session to support stability throughout the process.

  • Target Identification: Identify a specific memory or issue to focus on, with time to map out related beliefs, emotions, and body sensations connected to it.

  • EMDR Processing: Move through the EMDR process using bilateral stimulation to help you process and reframe the targeted memory. The extended time allows for deeper processing than a standard session.

  • Closure and Integration: End with grounding and a review of what came up, so you leave the session feeling settled and clear on next steps.

Note: Some targets may require more time than a single 3-hour session. If needed, this can be addressed in a follow-up session.
