About Shima B

I'm a social worker, trauma-informed guide, and creator of Dear Brown Gyal™. My work centers generational healing, especially for Caribbean women navigating emotional survival, cultural silence, and the legacy of what we've been taught to carry quietly.
I center Caribbean women because that's my story. But if you feel seen here, this space is for you too. Always.
I bring both professional training and lived experience to this work. I've spent years supporting people navigating complex family dynamics, systemic barriers, and the stigma around mental health that shows up differently in our communities. But what shaped my practice most is watching how money stress and emotional pain are tangled together, and how healing requires addressing both.
My approach is trauma-informed and culturally responsive. I work with individuals on generational and family patterns, identity and belonging, financial stress, and the specific weight of being a first-generation woman figuring out her own way. I also collaborate on storytelling projects, podcast conversations, and community-centered work that honors emotional survival and cultural truth-telling.
If your work centers collective care, cultural healing, or emotional liberation, I'd love to connect.

WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER
I’m available for select collaborations and professional inquiries aligned with my work as an LMSW and advocate for trauma-informed, culturally grounded care.
I’m especially passionate about storytelling as a tool for healing, whether through writing, blog features, or community narratives that honor emotional survival, identity, and generational truth-telling.
My work centers intergenerational trauma, emotional regulation, financial and culturally responsive wellness particularly within Caribbean and diasporic Black communities. I welcome opportunities to contribute to aligned projects such as podcast interviews, blog contributions, narrative-based campaigns, and collaborations that amplify healing-centered content.
